Clifton FC 3-0 Real United FC (CML South)

Clifton All Whites were founded in 1963, originally under the name of Thistledown Rovers. During the 1960’s and 1970’s Clifton All Whites dominated youth football in Nottinghamshire by attracting the best players from all over the county, now most players are local. Former players include Garry Birtles, Jermain Pennant, Darren Huckerby, Trevor Morley, Michael Johnson, Mark Hateley and the late Keith Alexander.

NCT Bus number 2 from Nottingham Market Square stops outside the ground. Buses leave every 30 minutes. Alight the last stop on Farnborough Rd, Clifton. Return buses are from the other side of Farnborough Rd. The pitch is surrounded by white wooden posts and rope, there are no floodlights. There is hard standing running along the right side of the pitch only and there is a covered standing area spanning the halfway line on the Farnborough Rd side.

I've been told by a reliable source that Real United are leaving the CML at the end of this season and are going into the Notts Senior League and that the Notts Police club are to disband at the end of this current season.

In the 9th minute Clifton FC's Evans hit a low shot from 18 yards out but the United keeper pulled off a fine save to deny the striker. Cliftons Captain, Anderson was setting up many of the home sides attacks and a cross from the right was headed over from close range. Although Clifton had the better chances the visitors were competing well but didn't force a save at all in the first half.

Clifton had overplayed in the first half and did not create too many chances. But early in the second half from a long throw Clifton won two headers in the United area before the ball was vollied into the net by Atkins. Five minutes later Real United had their first shot at goal but it was directly at the Clifton keeper. A fine move led to Anderson chipping the United keeper from the edge of the 18 yard area to make it 2-0. A last ditch tackle saved Clifton from conceding five minutes from time but on 90 minutes Ben Richardson stroked the ball past the keeper to give Clifton a comfortable 3-0 victory.
