Beeston OBA 0-9 Old Elizabethans (MAA)

Hetley Pearson Sports Ground

Beeston OBA started as the 17th Nottingham Boys' Brigade on 25th September 1909, with the Founder being Stephen Hetley Pearson. In 1913 the Pearson family along with donations from the people of Beeston raised the money to purchase the Beeston Lads Club building and 11 acres of land on Queens Rd for sports activities.

The club had their most successful years of football during WW2. Thought by some to be one of the best junior sides ever assembled. By the time of their second season of WW2 football they were on the look-out for worthy opposition and even Nottingham Forest and Notts County accepted the challenge. Billy Walker's Forest side were beaten and County was devastated by being beaten 10-0 - and promptly offered to sign virtually the whole team !

Today the old boys of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School of Mansfield came away with an easy win as four goals in five first half minutes sent the Beeston lads reeling. The visitors in Red and Navy Blue shirts were 6-0 up at half time. Within a minute of the re start a seventh goal went in when Tom Blaney ran from his own half, beat three players before chipping the goalkeeper. Old Elizabethans scored twice more before the hour mark but the Beeston keeper denied the visitors their tenth with some heroic saves in the final half hour.

Scorers - Tom Blaney (4), Callum Wilkinson (2), Dan Redding (1), Michael Bollington (1), Andy Boulton (1).
